Suntag funding cut
« on: September 04, 2012, 02:53:45 PM »
Not sure if this is the right place to post.

Just heard on the wire that Mr Newman has now seen fit to cut funding to Suntag.  I am guessing there are people more closely associated that will know more.  But surely this is a step in the wrong direction.

As Suntag was only open to affiliated bodies and their members I was never supportive of public funding going to the project.

I moved this topic to news as SUNTAG is not involved with fish stocking.

I would be the first to agree that tagging data / returns could provide good management info, however I've found it frustrating that for many years suntag doesn't share information with fish stocking bodies....opportunity lost.

A shame to lose anything that could help our fisheries.

Now wait for the budget cuts at DAFF on September 9th..... RFEP will be the first to go as well. A massive blow to fish restocking & sweetwater fishing in Qld.

Thanks guys!

I wasn't aware of the correlation between Suntag the data and the freshwater side of things.  It is a shame they aren't more forthcoming with the info though.

Cheers

Well there was StockTag, though there are varying views on the program its data base is under utilised IMHO

How much more info can we get from tagging Australian Bass in Queensland?  How much money did we spend on Suntag?  Can that money be better spent elsewhere until this State get back to where it should be with a decent economy?
