Title: Glen Lyon days
Post by: takrat on December 11, 2010, 02:58:27 PM
A mate and I fished Glen Lyon dam fairly solidly over 3 days and ended up with a large donut. They say you have to experience setbacks to fully appreciate success, but I know how to do that already. We covered a fair bit of the dam going mainly after structure; dead trees, rocks etc and even tried the submerged grassy banks. We tried hard bodies, both deep and shallow runners and even bought a few from Brian made by locals. We tried spinnerbaits too both Cod sized and Yellow belly sized with a variety of blades. We also tried a variety of retrieves along with surface lures and soft plastics with Beetle Spins attached.
We got a few bumps and a few outright hits but no hookups. We also tried turning the sounder off. Brian Dare was kindness personified and offered all sorts of advice. A few Yellpws were caught with bait but to my knowledge no Cod. The dam level is around 90% so that could have been a factor. This was the first time I've fished Glen Lyon when it was this high, I did well when it was about 20%. I don't know what the dissolved oxygen levels were but it's possible that with all the drowned vegetation it could have been a factor. Anyone got any ideas?
