Title: first barra
Post by: redline on February 07, 2012, 06:10:30 PM
went fishing today at the sunshine coast barra park, after spending numerous hrs trying to get them to mistakenly swallow a hook with some of there pellets that they willingly devour when not pierced with a hook we decided to try a squidgee and low and behold they bit loke crazy, I dropped my first two in the space of 3min but then managed to land the following two,

its a good place to go with kids as the fish wolf down the pellets and can often be seen following a lure or sizing up a bait,

Congrats on the Barra mate.  The Bass should be easy now.  Just hit the Stanley with some Spinnerbaits.

well i have been fishing the stanley for the last 33 years and never used anything but bait (worms) and saltwater yabbies in somerset for yellas,

might have to have a flick then,

if only there was a like minded person that lived close that was keen on coming with me to some areas few know about to give me some lure guidance lol

(bracing myself for an influx) :youbeauty :youbeauty

Congrats mate. Nothing like ya 1st barra. Wait till ya get 1 in a dam or river.
Fished the barra park last year and had some great fun. We found the secret was to fish very light mono line (4lb) and use very little brown hooks. Much like you would use for gar or bass. Place the biat on hiding the hook. We'd then berley them up leaving our bait floating in the middle of the berley. as soon as it sunk we chucked it. We landed plenty of barra and some nice jew. Biggest barra i think was around 88cm. Great fun when up the coast.

good one, yeah we tried the same method but the fish would come up to the bait and then shy away from it, clearly they could see the line or hook or both and no fish, take the bait off and toss it back and bingo they hit it the same as a hookless bait :OMG
