Saturday morning excursion
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:32:52 PM »
Thought I would head out for a morning session.  Since all of the rain, the water was a "Coffee and Milk" colour and thought I would give the surface only a short go.  No touches off the surface so switched to my metallic fire tiger Jackall 10CC. I normally go the dark colours in this type of water but since this lure was on top I went with the easy option. Instant results followed and got a few 42cm bass within the first 10 casts.

I had a look in the lure box and saw my buzzbait that hadn't caught a fish yet and thought it might make enough noise on the surfce to attract a bass.  So, 8 o 9 casts later another nice 40cm model was pinned on the stinger hook.  Glad I had the stinger hook on there!!

Kept working along the bank and the grass and really started to fine tune the retrieve that was working.  Pauses of about 3secs was the key and got a few more 30cm+ bass further up.

At the top of the section I was fishing I had a hit and a very different fight.  What came up was a surprise indeed.  A small bream that was a little out of his territory.

On the way back I got a few more bass in the 30's and a few more misses as I think the bass might not have been too committed.  Last fish of the day was the best by far and got a pic of it too, although my finger is over the lens a bit. DOH!!!  A nice 45cm bass to round out the morning.

Anyway a good little 3 hours of fishing for about 8 bass and one bream.

Cheers Geoff

Good fishing Geoff. I headed there on foot this morning ( I think we were in the same area !? ! ) took a look at the water colour and headed elsewhere.

LGM:  I gave that place a swerve and went elsewhere.  Mainly because I don't know when a torrent of water was gonna be coming down so I chicken'd out  :o

Steve:  Yeah, I knew straight away there was something different about the fight so I assumed it was a bream.  Now I like the idea of a getting a Jack!  Funny thing was, I was ripping the lure in to get ready for another cast at the snag at the top end on the right and he must have really wanted it.  That pause was really getting the job done yesterday.

The 10CC is one of my favs for bass.  It is a big lure compared to the chubby's and fat dogs but have got some great fish on this lure.

Cheers guys

I did get a lucky craft pointer a while back so I should give it a run one day.  I got that one with jack in mind but as you have pointed out the bass in there are hungry enough to smash it as well.  I guess it looks similar to the poddy's running around in that spot :)

Cheers mate
