Title: Local tackle shop promoting bass fishing in rivers Now !!
Post by: 4weightfanatic on August 17, 2012, 07:49:28 PM
Anyone read the Swan Boat Hire fishing report in the Sunshine Coast Daily tonight ?  Quote ".....the fishing for bass and yellowbelly (golden perch) has been reportedly great this last few weeks using bait and lures." this is accompanied by a picture of a guy holding a great bass and another holding a good yellowbelly both caught in the brackish of the Maroochy River. "...more interestingly,in the Maroochy river during the week was an unexpected catch of two freshwater species in the brackish water in a secret spot . A beautiful clean bass fought hard on a plastic while not long after a decent sized yellowbelly graced these two local anglers who were pretty shocked with the fish they had just landed. So don't just head out with a bream, flathead, cod,or tailor in mind this weekend. If you play your cards right,oh and poke your tongue that special way as you cast to increase to increase accuracy, you too may pull in an unexpected fresh surprise." The report goes on to mention bass being caught in Borumba dam but you can't tell me this is not promoting people to target bass while they say the fish were caught targetting jewies. If they had any nouse they would have mentioned that you can't target them but they also mention "...yabbies are very effective for big bass and estuary perch". I have it in mind to go in there and set them straight. Cheers Pat.

How did a yella get in the Maroochy?  It does sound like they were caught as by-catch, but the report should mention the closed season for Bass.

Ewen Maddock ends up in the Maloolabah River. Possibly a few yella's got washed out in the floods and followed the fresh up in to the Maroochy river? Not that far as the crow flys, only a couple of k's

Apparently it's not the first time it's happened this week neither with an author of regular fishing report column in the local newspaper, who also works at another tackle store, promoting how good the fishing for Bass was in the Mooloolah River. One of EMFMI members put him straight by phoning him. I'd be inclined to contact him Pat!

Let me guess Dave his name wouldn't have happened to be Brad by chance ? I've read some tall stories by him before. Cheers Pat.

I gave it to a tackle jockey emoployee of a bait shop via a letter to the editor after a similar report talking about fishing in closed waters and closed season some years ago.  It must have touched a chord because after that I was then sumarily asked to leave said bait shop by that author of the report. He now lo longer works there... good ridance to the tosser.

I would write to the local rags editor and set the record straight, then hang the authors name up here in the Shame Section.
