Ok,thanks
My queery is I have a 40hp 4 stroke Yammie on a 3.95 Stessco bass tracker, my mate has a 4.25 Stessco Bass tracker with a 30hp 2 stroke Merc. It has me scratching my head why I purchased the 40hp as it barely pulls away from the 30, and I mean barely. But the worst of it the 4.25 had 2 guys in it with esky's and gear and I was by myself.
Any ideas

Contrary to popular belief, Merc's often beat Yammies. The 30hp 2st Merc is a Tohatsu and while it is a rough running noisy motor motor, it goes like a cut snake. It's a lot lighter than the 4st Yammy too. A boat with a longer centre line will often be faster than a shorter boat as well. Maybe your boat has the motor set too high, or too low. It may not be running the correct prop or trim angle. The 4.25 with the Merc may be just hitting a sweet spot. There are many variables when setting up a boat, and maximum speed does not always mean the best efficiency.

The merc is noisy and certainly has the legs on the yammy, I was quite surprised how it compared to the 40hp. The yammy is a nice quiet motor and probably more fuel efficient but the cost differenc between the 2 is quite significant. I will check the prop out and see if I can improve the side of things and as far as I know its set at the right height, the yammie has trim and tilt so thats spot on.

What RPM is the Yammie doing at Wide Open Throttle?
