Freshwater anglers can now enjoy better boat based access to Blue Rock Lake in Gippsland thanks to recent changes in boating regulations.
The changes have seen the removal of previous restrictions on boat length and engine size and follow significant community consultation.
The changes deliver on a key commitment in the State Government’s Target One Million plan, which aims to get more Victorian’s fishing, more often.
A 15 knot speed limit will still apply to all boats which is expected to continue to deter water skiing and jet skis.
The new regulations will be trialled over the next 12 months  and are great news for freshwater anglers who are now able to access the fishery from larger sport-fishing and trailer boats.
Since 2002, more than 160,000 Australian bass fingerlings have been stocked into Blue Rock, which has become one of Victoria’s premier destinations.
The lake is also home to a stocked population of brown trout and rainbow trout, along with a self-sustaining population of redfin.
To help promote the bass fishery, some larger tagged specimens were released on the opening and will earn their captors a fishing tackle prize.
