Title: More of these soot grunter things........and dogs
Post by: Dick Pasfield on January 17, 2011, 06:31:44 PM
Reports are a bit shy due to the floods 'n' stuff so you'll have to put up with more black bream from me ;)

The big lake is just starting to fill thanks to a squirt of rain we just had, came up all of a foot ::) Still four metres off the top of the spillway, we usually have that going over every year 'cept for last year and maybe this one too if we're not lucky.  The best we've had is nearly eight meres over the top of the spillway in 01. That and a couple of other big ones in 06 and 00 is what killed all the trees you see in some of these pics.

At least the creeks are running be it just a trickle.

Here's a couple of shots from yesterday arvo, the storm in the shots of the lake is north and just about over town when these were taken.

Got the best fish of the day from the boat just as I pulled up sitting under the run in into the lake.

Dog had fun as she does, knee deep on me means she has to swim ;D

Great looking fish Dick! :youbeauty

They look pretty thick across their shoulders.

I might try to hit some local creeks myself as they have been slowly clearing here and with storms predicted the fish may fire if there's any left and haven't been washed out to sea. I rang a mate in Maryborough after the flood there had peaked and a Yellow Belly/Golden Perch was caught about 4km's off shore.

Do you tie your own fly's?

Dave

Top looking photos and fish Dick.  What is the fly in the second last photo?

Some great pics there Dick. THat country is worth being in even if you don't catch anything.
Cheers mate,
John

Steve that's be a dahlberg diver. sits on the top and as you pull it dives a bit then pops back up. No Dave don't tie my own yet, that will come though, looking for a good book that will provide that and some wider info I can use along with the usual YouTube stuff.  Yes John always good to spend a Sunday arvo out there :)

PS A bit more rain up that way last night, some places got about 50mm :thumbsup

Dick there are a lot of books out there but try this one "The art of the fly" by Frank Oleary - Do a google search and you might just like the front cover ;)  I wouldn't recommend starting your fly tying career on dahlbergs though :-[  A simple purple and black or green and white clouser would be the go for a few of those lovely tan sooties. Stunning country :youbeauty

Thanks for that, yes the cover is rather striking and somewhat familier :)

I will be following your advice and sticking to the simple flys. clousers catch most of my fish and a good starting point.

Thanks Dick.  I spotted the Dahlberg hanging out of the mouth in an earlier shot, but the one on the floral cloth background looked different and I wasn't sure.  Must have been the angle!!

As always nice shots.

You wore that shirt!  It looks like something you'd give the cat to have kittens on.

Nice piccies mate.

*a bite methinks*

It was not so much a matter of wearing it back then rather becoming one with the shirt, peace brother Dale.
