My nephew is a Linie for Energex and was working near the Brissy River at Kholo last week. They could smell something pretty bad so he set off into the scrub to find the source of it. Not far from the water, hidden in the bush was a pile of Mullet frames filleted a couple of days earlier. With them was the frame of a Barra over a metre in length. Recently heard of one hanging on a fence post near the Logan River too. Makes you wonder if these fish are being brought down from up north or if they're being found in the local waters. He tells me the Barra frame didn't look like a dam fish, it wasn't very deep.

A barra frame down this way?? Hmm wouldn't be supprised really! Quite interesting though...

Were the mullet local? and of the same age as the barra frame? can't imagine someone going out of their way to bring mullet back from up north - sounds like a netters stash,..and that the neters got a surprise catch for SEQ - probably some body's dam escapee or aquarium release? (or a climate change refugee ;)

Basser, Maybe the barramundi was a dam escapee & thinned out over a few months in the river over winter. The odd story turns up of them in the lakes upstream, lots of rumour about MSG work.
Jim there's stacks of mullet in the river right there, 2 species are common; bully & yellow/pink eye.

I have heard stories of barra allot down this way but they all seem to be dead or not far off it....

Jim, exactly what I was thinking. Someone doing some illicit, illegal netting in the river and got a bonus. They'd be burning up not being able to tell anyone too. They were well hidden, and Jordan followed the smell to find them. Could be an MSG escapee.
