Lake King William offers an abundant trout resource

Lake King William has large population of small wild trout due to the number and quality of its spawning streams and because it experiences relatively low fishing pressure.
To provide a contingency for varied rainfall, lake levels and fisheries performance in other waters, this resource will now be used as stock for other waters around the State, especially those that have trout recruitment issues.
To compliment other traps that have been constructed and are operated across the Central Plateau during winter, IFS recently completed the construction of a fish trap built on the River Derwent, just west of Derwent Bridge, where it enters Lake King William.
This trap is now ready for the 2016 spawning season that is expected to start in May.
