Title: Look local before heading far and wide
Post by: 4weightfanatic on October 14, 2011, 09:48:49 PM
It often seems the case that when you plan a fishing "trip" or a search for new water most seek distant places often overlooking places that can be literally in your own backyard. Like the inexperienced surf caster casting to the back of the breakers , often casting over the fish at their feet in an inshore gutter, the quarry is often under their noses. In a similar vein I decided to explore a creek in my "backyard" that I have lived near for nearly six years. I know bass have access to this water but also know a huge amount of water pushed down here in the last summer floods so are the bass still here ? Only one way to find out. Conditions weren't perfect with severe storms forecast but looking like they weren't going to eventuate so I spent about an hour scopeing a 150 metre or so stretch. No fish were found although I did have what could have been an attempted hit on the popper while I was pulling out a loop in my braid - of all the casts put in it had to be that moment !! Anyway this is what the spot looks like. Pretty awesome I reckon. Pat.

Looks very fishy Pat, You're right about thinking local. In my case we get good Bass in the Wilson River that flows right through Lismore. Can't be any more specific than that tho. Better luck next time with the knots mate,
Cheers,
