Hinze Dam Eastern Arm Access.
« on: July 19, 2013, 07:31:48 AM »
The access road to the eastern arm ramp has been closed for quite a while so I have sent an email to SEQ water asking for a progress report on the repair to the landslide.
I have also requested that the old temporary ramp be reactivated in the meantime.
Cheers
Ray

Just got a phone call from SEQ water ( Fantastic quick response) apparently they have an engineering report on the landslide area and they have to wait for the hillside to dry out before they an commence to stabilize the site before repairs can take place.
With the old temporary ramp site there is no turning area avail due to the current high water level.
Looks like we will just have to be patient and wait.
 Cheers
Ray

Ray not surprised to hear the temp road is now no good, but a bypass for vehicles has been around the slip since it happened, this picture was take just after the rain stopped.

And a bit of gravel by-pass for 50m is a lot less than we previously used on the far longer temporary slippery track.

Only needs one Give Way sign to establish an access road rule

Just wondering where you live Ray.  You said Kilcoy was too far to travel for the public input for Wivenhoe and Somerset, yet you go to Hinze, and North Pine regularly.

If you had a look at my profile instead of making snide remarks you will see that i live in the redlands.
Then you could have a look at a map and see that Kilcoy is twice the distance to either dam.

Wasn't being snide Ray, just curious.  I don't normally stalk people's profiles.  You'll be hanging out for the Leslie Harrison review I guess.

why dont they just open up the old temporary boat ramp on the eastern arm, it would give good access to the upper reaches of the eastern arm of hinze which by the way is fishing really well and not to mention that the western ramp is postitioned perfectly for access to the wall and numinbar valley !?

I have spoken to Dom Courtneys office re this subject.
There are 2 problems.
!. With the high water level there is no area to turn adjacent to the water and a very long reverse would be needed to launch and retrieve.
 2. The temporary road is severely eroded and would need major works to make useable.
I have been advised by another member that there is a dirt single lane  bypass around the landslide area that SEQ water use for access would be nice if they opened it for everyone.
SEQ water said that the landslide area needs to dry out before they can stabilize the area.
Maybe if a few more people would ring or email them things may move at the moment it appears to have a very low priority. Imagine Dept of transport waiting for Cunninghams Gap to dry out before repairing.
 Cheers
Ray

This is the short 50m bypass track on the landslide on eastern access road referred to by Ray, this picture was taken about a week after the rain ended early in the year.

Track is now very hard and used regularly by vehicles accessing the pumping station, and would be breeze to use if the gate was opened to the public.

Sent them an email yesterday and got one back the same day.
same excuse as above too wet to do the repairs, it will only take 2 weeks for the repairs if the weather clears.

Now that it's not raining see what's the excuse is.
