G'day people,
Does anyone know of some places where I can try for blueclaw (land based) around Allora or Warwick area?
I've been to one location but very badly infested with stinging nettle, I was stung many times. There was no dock around so used vinegar to ease the sting.

What do you mean by blueclaw? Do you mean crayfish? Just about every creek & river in the Murray darling catchment will have them. There won't be any secret spots or locations better than others, just some less fished. Any bridge, crossing or reserve should suffice.
Stinging nettles? If you're walking the banks at this time of year there's worse things to worry about than stinging nettles, always wear long trousers if you're fishing on foot and Bobs your uncle... :tick

G'day Sweetwater,
Probably the same thing (Crayfish), I did not want Redclaw confused with Blueclaw, I normally associated crayfish with saltwater larger cousins.
I have placed some pots in Dalrymple Creek running in Allora when I was there 3 weeks ago and only managed to collect 10cm models, tipped them back in the creek.
Only problem with the creek section was the bank , not many gradual banks, majority of the bank were shear drops with not much footing. I'm not familiar with the area up that way.
I'll take that advice about long trousers and rubber boots next time I go up that way.
Red belly blacks dont faze me, its the brown mongrels that do.

Hi Bondy,
Getting any over 10cm is just pot luck. The most common crayfish you're likely to find out on the downs Cherax destructor does grow bigger, but the average size is probably in that size range.

Hmmm, must be more sort after than what I thought. Not having a boat does make things a bit harder. In the not too distant future I might invest in a 3.85 or 4.0M tinnie and slowly build it up with accessories.
