Great sutff folks. More fish in those lakes = better fishing opportunities & less tilapia.  :Clap)

Better fishing opportunities would be if you could take a canoe or kayak to one of the lakes and didn't need to have an elitist boating permit for the other. When's the management plan coming out again?

Without the boating access permits the PRFMA would not be viable and there would be no fish going into either lake.
Another lot of fingerlings being released this Sunday.
Why is it that as lot of yakkers are like push bike riders and expect everything but do not wish to pay and think that the rules are for everyone else?
Cheers
Ray

But Ray, NPD is on the SIP .

I am sure if access was improved more people when buying the SIP would bother ticking the NPD box.

gotta agree with Dave

recon a whole lot more ticks in the box would be happening if you didnt need to do the secret handshake to get into and onto the dam.

The fact that it is on the SIPS funding is well to say the least bullshit.

Open it up to the pushbike riders I say

SEQ Water (or previous incarnations) make/made the rules not the PRFMA.
Boat permit costs the same for Somerset/Wivenhoe.
Be nice to have free access for all to fish ALL dams.
Been called a lot of ists but never elitist  ;D

I think part of the general public perception is that there is no public water access for a walk up visitor. Somerset / Wivenhoe you can show up on the day with your tinnie, pay the boat launching permit & go....

Comparison - Samsonvale BAS to SEQWater Boating Permit
The SEQWater permit for the 2 big lakes is: for trailerable vessels only, not for kayaks, canoes, roof toppers etc, and you can then access the whole lake. You can't drop a kayak into Bullocky Rest the same as you can at Logans Inlet or The Spit, and to do that at Adsets Rd costs a hungie. Trailerable boat permit for S/Set & Wiv is $100 first time, $75 renewal; Kayak / canoe is free..... and SEQWater boating permit is for both Somerset & Wivenhoe if you ask for it. there is quite a difference between then two types of permits.....

From my persective its not all SEQWater's restrictions, there's nothing like the same hoops to jump thru at other SEQWater lake access schemes eg at Hayes Landing, Maclean Point, Murrumba Point, SDA, Austin Rd. It has been suggested that the Adsetts Rd BAS was intentionally complicated "over and above the SEQWater requirements" by person/s within PRFMA at the time; looking at other SEQWater lease/access schemes it appears a fair comment.

The restrictive tendancy of access to Lake Samsonvale is partly what made me push to kick off Kurwongbah stocking; in the hope of getting more accessible fishing opportunities in that area without needing to jump thru extra hoops and cost for locals to go fishing.

Not knocking the Adsetts Rd lease deal (BAS) or PRFMA, it is what it is.... I can see why PRFMA members are defencive of it. To the contrary, it was me who suggested (and then supported on the FMAC) that PRFMA should apply for Samsonvale to join the SIP Scheme.  :tick
I payed for the Samsonvale BAS when I lived locally, now that I'm over near Wivenhoe I don't... it's just easier to go to alot of other places & this is where I think Samsonvale misses out, the tourist / visitor. Hence where the comments / perception about elitism may stem from.  :)

It would be good to see a SEQWater permit that allows you to launch at all it's dams / lakes for one fee, same as the SIP.

With the angler preference being such a major factor in how the SIP scheme funds are allocated since they diddled with the percentages to placate the folks from Warwick some years back, if small numbers go there it gets a comensurate fuunding level back from the SIP, a self fulfilling profecy....

Can guarantee that if Samsonvale was opened up to a similar public access level to even Wivenhoe, the close proximity to major population base would see good numbers (possibly beating Somerset) fishing there & ticking the SIP box to the tune of probably $50-60k a year from the SIP going towards restocking it.

Since stocking by PRFMA commenced aprox 2 million fingerlings have been released in NPD and about .5% of this figure has been paid by SIP monies..
 Cheers

You know that number and percentage is going to change now but Ray.

Under the SIPS scheme it should be opened up to allow the day visitor and the like.

It would be great if the Somerset and Wivenhoe boating permit monies were given to the stocking group like Lakes advancetown and Samsonvale.  To an outsider it really does look like double dipping.
