Hinze Dam
« on: January 11, 2015, 11:45:55 PM »
Hi All, first post, looking for any info on Hinze dam as it is the closest dam to home here on the Gold Coast.
My mate and I spent 5-6 hours there in the kayak's on Sat morning chucking plastics, blades, vibes, spinnerbaits pretty much everything we had, with a donut for both of us. Now we're no pro's but we're not gumby's either and it's been a few years since either of us have donuted. I have mostly fished offshore and in the Broadwater but since selling my Savage Mako early last year it's been mostly yaking for me. My mate is'nt to bad with a rod either and did some time on the ABT circuit a few years ago so he knows what he's doing. It was a bit disappointing for both of us not to hook a fish even though we enjoyed the time on the water and it was a nice change not being in the salt.
So if anyone has info & tips on Hinze Dam and bass especially it would be much appreciated, as I'm prety keen to get into this sweetwater fishing caper.

Cheers

Darren

20 feet of water on edge of dead trees. Do not go there when it is windy or raining unless wearing hard hat as branches fall.
Increase your chances 20000% with live shrimp.
Western arm head upstream along side old access track and fish the submerged gullys you should find some there if you do not have shrimp ice jigs will do the trick
Cheers

Shrimp traps to catch your own leave at least overnight in a couple of feet of water on dam edges. They will also be in most freshwater creeks usually on the weed edges. Try with a scoop net and you should pick up some around the weeds or next to logs.
Some aquarium shops sell them but they are exy.
Aratula redclaw farms sell them they were $35 per 100 earlier last year. They deliver to Bne and possibly the gold coast on wednesdays give them a ring.
 Cheers
Ray
