Stretch down from North Pine Dam
« on: January 22, 2011, 12:40:42 AM »
Just seen some photos if the stretch of river down from the NPD wall.  I had to look twice at the photos.  Just unreal destruction there.  So much vegetation is missing and trees just destroyed or not even there anymore. Unbelievable !!!   :OMG

Anyone got some other photos from down there.  Would be great to see some more.

Cheers Geoff

No, but the two road bridges joining petrie and strathpine are still closed because of flood damage. Rumour has it a container or two came down with the flood water and gave them both a good belt.

I heard that the container went over the low bridge and under the high bridge.  It took out the water pipes under the bridge.

Container came from the Pony Club at Petrie.
Walked from Youngs up to the Petrie Weir total devastation, only trees left standing are very large eucalypts.
All the native trees planted after 82 when the last of the willows were removed after the big flow when the gates failed to open are gone.
Upstream of the weir the banks have also pretty much been stripped bare for 7 or so meters.

cheers
Steve

Pretty much explains the thousands? probably x more, tons of silt heading up here towards Bribie and beyond eventually. Will be interesting to see if anyone dare name a true figure of how much bankside ends up in the sea. River and creekside farms will have shrunk somewhat. No doubt they'll claim a deduction on "lost" land and get an assistance package  ::)

You can see the souther bank of the pine has been quite badly eroded at the highway bridge, undermined and collapsed, probably a couple of metres in all along the bit you can see. Might have to drop in to deep water bend for a look.
