Hmm, not an easy one.

Election year - what is worst for their voter?

Assuming the predictions of a cyclone or major rain event is coming in the next month are true, another flood in labour electorates with the associated clean up bill that they can't afford.

OR

Risk wasting a year's water that won't be replentished in the next year if the predictions are wrong???

The first is an immediate issue that could make the difference in an election this year.  The second is a potential issue that MAY happen in the future.  Lesser of two evils?

Eitherway, the decision to release is political.  Not saying I agree with it, but rather thinking about the reason why.

You might have nailed it their Apollo, regardless of the outcome, there will still be plenty of water in the dams when the next election comes even if we get no more rain. It will be the election after it will potentially be an issue.

Win Win situation for the pollies who only worry about the next election.

According to BOM senior forecaster this morning the La Nina effect has weakened & rain events should now lessen.

Rumour mill is starting to kick in, now I've heard that the reason for the drop is because the dam was damaged structurally during the big flow.

Next week it will be another reason doing the rounds
