First Timer
« on: May 28, 2012, 05:34:14 PM »
Took my Bro out on a kayak for his first time, off to Harpeng Rd to target some Bass before the season closes we greeted with a chilly 5 deg within 20 mins he open his account with a Bass around the 50s using a 1/2 oz TT spinner bait And a Grin from ear to ear.He ended up with around 7 to 8 Bass all taken on Spinner Baits 3 of them on Berkley soft vibes I finish up 8 Bass & a Yellow Belly  caught on D Cherry Crankbait Deep Diver & Beetle spins. I caught 3 Bass From 3 casts on the beetle spins  even after hauling the Mantra Panlani back up the hill i think i might have a convert.

Awesome, I was saying to Pam yesterday how lucky we are to live less than 10 minutes from this fishery.

Good to see some fish still around. I'm probably going for a fish on Wed. possibly Harpeng Rd or up north in the Mary Valley and I'm wondering when I get to the cow enclosure at the end of Harpeng rd do I walk/drag yak down the the right hand side where there looks like a track to a small clearing or do I follow the fence line straight down (as per google view) ? Also do I have to climb/go through any further gates at the end of the road. Tips appreciated cheers Pat.

Pat, at the end of the road you'll come to a fence, with a gate to your left, a gate to your right and a gate on the left hand end of the new illegal fence.  Do not go through either of the gates to your side.  You can go through the one on the left of the new fence and follow the pathway down to the water.  You go through the Castor Oil trees to the water.  Do not go through any other fences to the left or the right.

Thanks Dale I think I've got the idea. So the gate I can go through is that on the fence that runs straight ahead due west as per google ? I imagine the google pic is outdated and this new fence isn't on it  >:( I'll have a look at the vid Fitzy put up of the drag in there but the PC isn't very video playback friendly (stop start) so takes ages to watch anything. Cheers Pat.

No!  The only gate you can go through is on the fence that is blocking off the road straight ahead to the river.  You cannot turn left or right, you will see it when you get there, ignore Google pics.

Do not go through any other fences to the left or the right.

Although once through the gate on the illegal fence at the end, there is yet another illegal fence cutting across from the left to the water as the road goes straight ahead to the other side of the lagoon, then turns 90 degrees to the right & extends to the end of the island.

Council has advised that you are permitted to cut or remove any fence in your road while staying on the road reserve.

Both fences across the road are illegal. Complaints have been made to EPA for illegal cutting on native trees by adjoining land owner AND for illegal occupation of crown land. This will be resolved in due course.
