Title: Brisbane River Bass report
Post by: Sweetwater on April 23, 2011, 08:28:05 PM: Did a section of the Mid Brisbane River today with Aussiebasser. First cast we were both hooked up onto a couple of 50+cam bass. It was looking like we were going to kill a pig, but it went quiet straight away, for a while. We caught several others but nothing over 50cm, a couple of destroyed leaders, lost lures and one broken rod payed testament to some quality fish being in the system. A couple of big powertails were caught as well.

Will post some pictures and video one I download it.

Since I have not been in the Brissy River before I was curious if any of the spots to put-in are or have been out of order since the flooding. I was gonna go down from the Mt Crosby Weir but the maps show a lot of damage. If any there is any local knowledge on this or other put-in spots that might be out of action that would be great also.

Post by: aussiebasser on April 24, 2011, 08:02:15 PM: Yep, learnt a couple of lessons there. It's better to lose a Spinnerbait than break a rod trying to get it off a snag with the rod tip, and it's better to keep paddling to Twin Bridges than trying to drag a yak up to the road at Lowood Bend.

I'm in the yak mate. Just thought there might be some areas off limits due to construction and such e.g. Mt Crosby Weir from the areal photos the Mt Crosby Weir is pretty damaged. Also not sure where people's properties are and don't want to get anyone upset by running around on their land.

There is a permanent total exclusion zone from Kholo Bridge to the Mt Crosby Weir, then a no fish zone 400m downstream from there, then another no fish zone 50m below the old weir (below Mt Crosby Weir).

All land above the high bank is private property, however you are free to travel up & down the river (except the exlcusion zone) anywhere on the river you like if you access the river from a public access point.

the buggers all need a fine!! it is happening every day out there. fisheries would have a field day just before sun up and arvo!!

Post by: Novice on May 13, 2011, 09:51:48 AM: The Brisbane River below Wivenhoe is still fishing well . Had a quick session this morning using spinnerbaits , average size was around the 40's , and out of the 15 landed only the 1 over 50. Hope you enjoy the pics.
