Title: NPD Claw trip with the boys.
Post by: Binder on March 13, 2011, 09:02:34 AM
One of my sons had a mate staying over for the weekend, so took them out for a bit of redclawing on NPD yesterday.

While waiting for the redclaw to find the pots we spent a bit of time fishing for gar so I would have some bait for next weekends salt trip!

Very pleasant afternoon, nice little breeze blowing, kids got about 50 gar, got a nice big feed of red claw for the fishing club meet next weekend.

Have been thinking this may be why fish are hard to catch of late, they only have to sit there and inhale to get feed with the current redclaw population  :o

cheers
Steve

Tell you what, by the time I got to 175 of the biggest cleaned, and not even half way through, the neighbours got a good feed! (And told to "clean them yourself"!).

Got an earful from the club cook last time I took some along to a club meet, they hardly had any room left for the dinner he cooked!  :o  Been told they are dessert this weekend. Boys will probably watch the game on the box and sink a few while cleaning that lot up (We camp over on fish comps) I cook them like prawns, cant be buggered with anything special. They taste like the best king prawns you ever had, so I figure why do anything else. (Besides sauce makes it hard to hold your beer!)

Mate I haven't had a feed like that since I last fished the Bulloo River at Thargomindah. We got some really nice Yella's, filleted them and ran up a beer batter then cooked up a heap of yabbies, about 5 full opera house traps full. All washed down with cold beer around a mulga fire. That is fishing heaven! But I'd be a willing participant in your effort. Bugger the cook I say.
Cheers mate,
JD

Hey Bracey,
Binder's obviously a man with enormous restraint. I believe I would have "tried" a couple too.

HMMMM, got me itchy now, Might have to drop out over the weekend and drop some pots in of the bank.
cooler nights usually means they start moving around in the shallows, and theres still lots of new flooded country for food sources.
thinks, better organise a SIPS before I do hey !!!!

You only need a sips if you are going to fish dont need one to redclaw but if you decide to get one please allocate funds to North Pine dam.
Cheers

Ray, always one of the dams ticked  :thumbsup.
I might take a rod and some lures I have made to test & tune, so don't want to get nicked by the plod  :-[ while waiting to pull the pots.

Cheers Brad
