Lost rod n reel
« on: November 12, 2011, 11:20:53 AM »
G'day All,

Was fishing yesterday arvo in the Brissie River, about 100 meteres the dam wall side of the Brisbane/Lockyer junction, trolling a few lures with the kids.  Outta nowhere one of the rod holders buckled over and next thing I know, the rod is disappearing underwater behind the boat!  Buggered if I know what happened - I'd like to think an elusive unicorn grabbed it, but prob a snag - but I dare say my holder wasn't tightened correctly, and the drag wasn't set right.

So if you happen to drag up a 6'6" red Silstar rod with a black Abu reel, could you kindly pm me - chances are it's mine.  Hopefully my daughter's gold Kokoda G-Vibe is still on the end of it!  Very upset about it  :'( (didn't give a rats about the rod n reel).

Cheers,
Tim.

Lockyer Creek must be cursed . My wife lost her Curado baitcaster combo in the creek section last weekend . With alot of the creek and the river at 4 metres ++ deep , its a long way down if you are going to make a swim for it . I tried casting just a treble and sinker around where she dropped her rod , but all I  got were fork tailed catties  ( spent 3 arvos at it too ).

On a side note , forkies are fun on surface lures in the dark :)

Geez Novice, that's a big loss.  I reckon I'd be looking at scuba gear if that were me.......

I'm not really too worried about the reel, as it was on it's way out anyway, but the rod holds sentimental value.  Basically it was the first rod I ever had, bought for me by my stepfather about 25 years ago.  I learnt to fish with it.  Outlasted a few reels, and had a few guides replaced, but it was still going strong.

Cliche I know, but at least he was lost doing something we both loved........sob..............

What a bummer - I bet there's whole tackle shops down there with all the flood created snags ! As regarding donning scuba gear no thanks - have you ever dived in murky water ? Scary stuff. I lost a lure in Yardie Ck that enters the sea up at Ningaloo Reef south of Exmouth after a southerly wind gust blew the lure into the rock face I was casting along breaking the swivel at the tie in point. This lure I had just caught my first mangrove jack on so I was spewing and vowed to come back the next day and dive for it as it was a sinking Rapala. I made a note of the tree position it sunk below so next day I chuck on my wetty and snorkelling gear and enter the water to find the visibility about a foot. Now this gorge that the creek flows through looks just like the Kimberleys and knowing its too far south I couldn't stop thinking about crocs so swam the whole distance with my head above water until I was below the tree in question. After fumbling around in the murk with my face a fot above the bottom I found the lure as it had one of the old metal bibs that reflected some light - lucky. I nearly walked on water getting out of there. I don't think I would do that nowdays. I hope someone pulls it up for you mate. Cheers Pat.

Now that they're going to dump a heap of water maybe you'll have to stand at Colleges Crossing and watch for it going under there.
