Dumaresq River 1.6.13
« on: June 02, 2013, 12:38:51 PM »
Fished the Dumaresq River again yesterday out near Texas with WayneD and DougS. Conditions were relatively mild for the first day of winter. The morning was fresh but I doubt it was lower than 10C and the day turned into a pleasant 23C. Water temperatures usually at this time of year are painfully cold , but not this time. Still though WayneD started the days fishing in his Ugg boots.  :P
The cod were hard to hook up early in the day, with many taps and 'dropped' fish, but the hookup rate got better in the middle of the afternoon.

When one finds themselves unable to get out fishing as much as they like , they find themselves viewing pictures of locations and fishing in general from online sources. I have tried to make the effort in taking more pictures on my trips these days as I want to return the favour for like minded souls who for any reason can't get out and about themselves. Sorry if at times it feels a little self indulgent. Enjoy the pictures.

The start of the day.

Probably the best/most productive part of the river I have ever come across.

Garra Tera lures worked for me again , both in black/white and green/black. Wayne also got fish on spinnerbaits.

Cheers,
Dave.

My day was ordinary to say the least. I got smoked twice on spinnerbaits and lost a brand new Garra Tarki to a snag all within the first hour I reckon. I only managed the one small fish before it was time for me to head home around 1pm as I had to have the kids that night. Then at 3pm as I was driving through Toowoomba the ex rings me and says I don't have to have them now. GRRRR and then Dave rings me and tells me about the awesome section of river they found not long after I turned around...GRRRR.

Here are the only photo's I took all trip. The gun rack on my yak.

Thanks for the post guys, what's the better season for cod? Haven't had the pleasure off catching one yet... ;) A mate and myself were getting stuck into the bass before the closed season, back to the salt for 3 months  :-\

They bite all year round ( don't know about spring though , that's closed season). But in summer the water temp is more comfortable when wading through it.

Ah yep, border rivers. I'm going NW off Toowomba next weekend for a camping trip with a few rods thrown in. Cheers for the info.

Wayne,
Are they the new and improved floating rods?  Bugger this chest cold.  Wish I could have made the trip, but I'm just an old sook and I'm damn sure I'd have got no CPR out of you buggers if the chest had given up the ghost.

Great effort and report

Jeff

Probably a good way to pick up some shrimp or maybe yabbies.

River is looking good, sounds like a good day for everyone except Wayne.
