My guess that spot would be downstream of Woodford? Hard to access between Woodford and Villeneuve bridge unless you used a feeder creek like Neurum creek . The bridge crossing looks accessible to kayaks.

After looking at google maps , Neurum creek wouldn't help your access that much afterall :thumbdown

You can access the Stanley River via Neurum Creek, but it requires a flows to get through as its pretty skinny water; more dragging than paddling until you hit the lake/river.
Apart from that, the only public access points are at Woodford & then downstream all the way to Kirkleagh Recreation area. Some folks launch next to Villenueve Bridge, however this is "officially" not permitted by SEQWater.

Let me be very clear, you will not make it downstream from Woodford unless you are Steve Irwin. It is very small water in normal flows, overgrown with cats claw in places. In high flows it is putting your life at risk. I know, I was silly enough to try it.
The photo I posted was taken on a section that was accessed via private property. I'm not allowed to divulge where, as we're doing some research there.

You can get on the Stanley up around Peachester & Commisioners Flat. Again mostly very skinny water with the odd pool. Again more dragging through silt/mud than paddling.

In all, the Stanley is mostly a shallow skinny river (more a creek really) with only a few pools of limited size. There is some backed up water above the weir at Woodford but there's a huge log blocking the river just upstream of the weir. You will need to carry up & around it to go further up. Then there's a bit of water available until it peters out into a creek again.

IMHO, Neurum Creek, Kirkleagh or Woodford Weir are the best options to get to water of any size, tho none of them are easy.

There is some nice water on the Stanley, there's also some terribly abused pieces of water/river bank from generations of abuse by land owners and others.

Good luck to anyone who goes exploring. You may find some holes that are accessable on foot in feeder creeks if you look hard enough.  ;)

A couple of k section down behind the prison where the river goes close enough to the road that you can access it from the road reserve. If you go to far upstream though you get a visit from security.

Woodford Prison contacted me a while back about assistance with an Aquaculture Program they want to setup. I asked about acessing behind the prison. Was told it is patrolled. I'd hate to be sneaking along the river bank, rod in hand only to have a SWAT team to decend on me.  C:-)

Don't think I'd be standing my ground on the "Crown Waters / Crown Land" arguement in that scenario. I'm not going to find out....  :o

Here's a picture, although a bad one, of upper Stoney Creek that flows out of the mountains into the Stanley River, joining around half way down from Woodford to Villeneuve (Lake Somerset)

Beautiful looking water in the flesh.
