NEWS Just when the rivers were looking spectacular – more rain!
Over the weekend we fished the rivers and the water was a little fast but not unfishable and between 4 clients we caught and released more than 30 fish.
By Sunday afternoon the rain came down in buckets and now the rivers and streams are once again almost impossible to fish with flies. Lure anglers may have a chance with some deeper divers or heavier lures.
As the lake continues to rise, and I expect quite quickly over the next few days, water is again covering new ground and the trout are poking about the margins so the lake edge fishing continues to be good.

HOLIDAYS – Sorry no reports for about 2 weeks!
Every December I have my family holiday down the coast somewhere, and have a break before the end of year rush, so there will not be another fishing report for about two weeks.

LAKE LEVEL and TEMPERATUREThe water level of Lake Jindabyne is again rising fast after all the rain and will be starting to come into the bottom of the camping area at Discovery Holiday Park and with more rain and storms predicted it is going to be an interesting year.
The lake water temperature has risen to19 degrees C.
Let’s have a look at what the fishing is going to be like over the next few weeks.

Trolling.With the lake level now back to covering new grass around the margins, you can expect the fish to start moving in closer so early morning you will need to troll close in to the edges.
Trolling small minnow lures off the lead core lines through the shallows at sunrise and sunset is producing mostly rainbows now with the occasional good brown trout.13 gram Tasmanian Devils are still going best with possibly yellowing lures better now, with Y Freddo very popular. The best lures over this week have been my definitely greens and gold’s and Tasmanian Devils in the Duel Depth best in the later morning with this lure getting down a little deeper.
Rapalas, trolled off lead lines is the best lure for catching the brown trout.
Blades are still fishing OK around the margins, we have a good selection in our shop – most resemble the gold fish we have in our lake and the trout are hitting them hard.
You don’t have to fish these deep at the moment, but there is an advantage to being able to spread lures at different depths on the brighter days and so downriggers at about 25 to 30 feet are still worth having out.
East Jindabyne islands, Hayshed Bay, Lion and Cub Islands and the South arm have been fishing very well.
Lake Bait Fishing  (Primarily most rivers and streams in the Snowy Mountains Region are fly and lure only, We recommend that you first check with the Department of Primary Industries (NSW Fishing rules) as to which rivers in the area you can legally bait fish in. IF IN DOUBT DON’T BAITFISH IN RIVERS!)
Scrub worms off the bottom and a power bait dropper has been best over recent days and some big fish are being caught. Good reports on Bardi Grubs over the last few days as well and the bigger browns have been caught this way.
Mudeye fishing experts are telling me that they are getting more fish on Powerbait at the moment and Mudeyes still need warmer water temperatures. Maybe later this week mudeye fishing may improve.
The big secret at the moment is to fish with bail arm open and make sure you grease the line to make sure you keep it out of the slime on the bottom of the lake.
Best areas for bait fishing at the moment have been, Rushes Bay, Curiosity Rocks, Waste Point, The Snowy Arm and East Jindabyne pumping station.

Lake Spinning Water level is rising again and so the fish are moving back into the edges and shallow bays.
Start the day off by fishing these areas and then move out deeper.
Spin close around rocky outcrops for best results later on in the day in the day and use smaller lures like Celtas or Gillies Spinners or the Vibes around the shallow bays after dark. Don’t stay in one place too long and only put in a couple of casts in each area.
Tasmanian Devils are catching fish in the deeper water by casting and waiting for the lure to sink a little before a slow retrieve. Cast as far out as you can but best results will be when the water is choppy with a little wind. Yellow wing Tassies are again doing best on the sunny days.
Anglers are still having good success using blades that resemble the goldfish we have in the lake.
Some of the better blades are TT Switchblade ‘Golden Boy’, Strike Pro Cyber Vibe 35 BLG and Cyber Vibe 50JU009.

River SpinningPlenty of water coming down the rivers again and with more rain predicted it will make the fishing quite interesting. Fish the back waters for best results as the trout will possibly move out of the faster currents.
Sinking minnows like Rapalas have still been best in the pools, where you can toss them in and let them sit a while before retrieving.
If you can get a lure closer to the bottom you will get more strikes.

Fly Fishing LakeMost fish this past week have been caught using Craig’s Night time and Williamson’s Goldfish and are well worth using at dawn and dusk.
Fish the bays for best results.

Fly Fishing RiversAs reported the fly fishing is going to be very tough now until the river levels drop.
Cooler temperatures are not helping things either.
With rain predicted for the next few days at least I would not expect fly fishing to be easy until the river levels drop again.
Meanwhile fish the lakes and you should catch some fish at least.
