Bushwacker and I fished the Dumaresq River at Texas from kayaks on Wednesday 2.5.2011.

There is a dedicated free camping area on the Queensland side of the river , running upstream from the bridge. The river bank in front of this is an easy launch for either kayak or canoe.

We headed downstream past the bridge, where other than a barbed wire fence accross the river, there is very little portage. The further you travel downstream, the better the structure/snags become.

From this snag Bushwacker finally landed his first Murray Cod. He 'dropped' 3 before he landed one.

We saw a nice Red-bellied Black Snake( Pseudechis porphyriacus) awaiting the sun.

How good are the Border rivers? It seems like there is great fishing from Sundown NP down to Gundi and beyond. :thumbsup

Yeah, its an 08' model. The previous owners must of never of used it, just like new. Its got scratches on it now and mojo installed. :P

Really, you would never know
At least it will get use for what its supposed too now.
Hopefully it will be ok and get used to all the fish coming over the side as well.

Fished it a bit years ago when I was often hunting on a property upstream. Fished probably similar to what it does now, always a rat cod around with the odd bigger one to keep you guessing. The weir itself gets fished hard at times but it's amazing how often fish get caught within sight of a popular spot.

After giving Whetstone Weir a go in the morning at Inglewood, we decided to pop down to Texas for an arvo session . Paddled upstream this time but only for a kilometre or two. Saw a couple of smallish Cod and a heap of big carp.

Yeah, I thought it looked a little clearer. But the river is more shallow heading upstream ( well the small section we did anyway).

How far would that be? Would you be able to fish it properly in one day in a point to point trip?

That's kinda what I was asking. Think I will have to do it one day but might take camping gear.
