Redclaw Catching Questions Late 2012
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:38:27 AM »
Hi,
I'm looking to go for a trip to Wivenhoe this week to try my hand at picking up some redclaw. I've got 4 opera house traps but don't have a boat so will just be swimming out and dropping them in that way. Don't really know a whole lot about what to expect/aim for. Is this a good time to be going temperature wise? Are there different depths that are ideal depending on temperature/time of year? Has any one else had any luck with redclaw at Wivenhoe lately? Also I wouldn't mind dropping a line in, not really an experienced fisherman but would be happy to catch anything at all, any tips for catching anything land-based would be great. Really looking forward to getting out there and having a crack. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :-)

Pick a spot with a steep bank and throw the pots out rather than swim, would be a good start.
elcheapo can of cat food for the bait pocket  :thumbsup

Kipper Creek is a popular spot so can get a crowd when the claw are on.

Cast away in same sort of spot, just be sure you have your SIPS permit  :)
