Floats
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:06:13 PM »
as a pom I use a lot of different floats in my pursuit of fresh (sweet) water species, tbh, I have no idea if you blokes use them over there, but, if you do or if you dont, I'm sure you will appreciate the workmanship displayed in the making of these hand made floats, just fantastic.

G'day Mugs,

I tend to fish more these days with lures however in my baiting days, sure a float was used, mainly float made from foam though along with lines unweighted.

The floats pictured from the link in your post almost deserve never to used they look that good and would look better over a bar.

True workmanship at it's best.

Cheers Dave

A bit of deja vu from a bygone time, fishing for ludrick south coast of NSW.  Loved to watch the float disappear, some rippers there Mugs :thumbsup

hey Mugs those floats are really well made, almost makes me want to take up fishing with them. I'd hate to see a Barra taking one off into the snags though.
Cheers mate,
J

its funny, but I was talking to a mate this morning regarding an elderberry pith float that I made some 45 years ago. It was painted white with a black tip and a couple of black bands round it middle. I used that float for about 5 years and caught all sorts of fish using it, but even today I can remember seeing it disappear. The vision is a clear today as it was at the time, a gentle swirl to the left, then to the right before sinking as the fish took the bait. Lifting into the fish the line just snapped above the float with a resounding "CRACK" for a split second it stayed on the surface before the fish made off to the depths .. GUTTED

If it had looked like one of those pictured, I would probably have ended it all right there and then LOL

Talk about coincidence.  It was only this morning that I was talking to Fitz about getting on the pith.  Not sure about elderberry, but I've taken a distinct liking to the berry flavoured apple cider.

Some cracker floats there. I use them occasionally when taking the lad fishing for snub nosed gar.
