Back To Basics
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:15:27 PM »
It's been several years since I fished these parts where I first started to explore more hard to get to places. It had also been a while since I had done any landbased fishing and the bare feet certainly paid the price.

Getting back to basics and exploring old grounds that are vertually untouched, yet literally a stones through from civilisation has revitalised my passion again.

I quickly went to a given hole that I have caught numerous good Bass in the past, landing one after just 10 casts. With my fix over and the sun creeping higher in the sky I wanted to explore a section of creek where Bass are usually plentiful, however today was another story. The upper reaches of this area has small narrow creeks that lead to larger pools. My guess is that a lot have made it downstream with the summer floods earlier this year (2011). Another concern is that I found a lot of this section of creek is now choked with Silvinia Weed.

Here's a few photo's from this morning.

Looks like some nice bank walking there Dave - good looking water too. Great seeing a cicada lure in a bass's mouth too I've yet to try one. Do you just use downward stabs of the rod tip to work them or do they rock side to side on a constant retrieve? I like the photo of the Banksia cone with the Xanthoreas in the background - Wallum country isn't it ? Nice report Pat.

Just a slow retrieve Pat with plenty of pauses with the Cicada.

That country is literally at your back door too mate! I'm sure you know where it is, if you look close at the flora and the topography of the land.

Dave
