It all comes out in the end... Dubbo council forgot to lodge the paperwork and missed a shot at putting in a fishway and Carp trap in 2007.
From tonight's local news:
"This week fishing lobbyist Matt Hansen, an ardent supporter of the fishway project, slammed council.
He's been told in 2007 city hall applied for an Urban Sustainability Grant for around $2 million dollars to have works done on the Fishway for South Dubbo Weir.
He understands the DPI completed 95% of the application, but council didn't complete the remainder and missed the grant deadline".
How the hell does a stuff up like that happen????????

Mate,
Why am I not surprised? For the most part Local Government is made up of people who wouldn't get a job anywhere else because they can't make decisions without forming a committee. THe elected officials are generally only there so they get some agenda of their own pushed through (so you may as well do what Fitzy says) or they are there as a stepping stone to state or federal government. No apologies for my cynicism, but I've seen this sort of thing happen all too frequently.
Have you looked at the grants available from the license money?

Wide Bay Water was given around a million bucks in a grant from the state govt to put a fishway on the Burrum river weir in 08 I think it was and still nothing has been done and fish are dyeing every year because of it.

That's politics for you Mat.
Heard a good line the other night. Politics is the second oldest profession known to mankind,
It is interesting how it is so similar to the oldest profession.
