Title: Sweet days....Part 2.
Post by: estuary girl on September 27, 2010, 09:43:28 PM
Had checked out the second spot a couple of days ago and with the river looking good we headed there. I had gathered info last season of a few spots just “over the hill” from me but would never attempt them on my own. Anyway it’s more fun fishing with someone else. You need someone to lay dirt on and vice versa.
This spot is just prime water and I’ve lost count how many times I have driven along its length gazing longingly at the enticing water. One day and that day had come.
After traversing the various small rapids we fished the small pools on the way up. Unfortunately someone had left the light on and the Bass had gone shy. Through various surface lures in the overcast conditions under any bit of structure and overhang we found to no avail.
One pool in question stretched out before us just beckoning us to try one last time here. Leigh changed to his ever faithful Squirrel and after casting to the far bank was on!!!
This fish gave him curry like I’ve never seen before. After a tow around the pool we were soon rewarded with sighting her. What a beautiful Bass!!!
A new PB for Leigh on a wild Bass and a first for him from this river as he’d never fished it before.
46cm of pure healthy looking Bass!!!
Well done mate and I was happy to be a witness to the capture.
We worked our way further up and under the last bridge before making the call to head for home and pepper the big pool on the return trip. The sun had started its descent over the hills behind us and knowing we would have a quicker trip back through the rapids we looked forward to those last few casts before arriving back at the cars.
Once again the pool produced another memorable Bass for Leigh on the way back going 44cm. I remained Bass less and I started to wonder if my “Sweetwater Mojo” had deserted me?
Thanks Leigh for the laughs and memorable first fish for you.

Cheers.

Nice report Toni and some nice fish as well :)

Did you ride the yak down that little race or let it down on the rope?

I had the same thoughts exactly . Kinda like a solo commercial.

As always, a very good report and a major effort for both of you. Top water too.

Well done. Nothin quite as satisfying as finding new water then exploring and successfully extracting quality fish from it.
