Had a bit of a look out Fernvale/Esk way today, first time Ive been in that part of the world.
Stopped at twin Bridges, seems to be plenty of Catties and Spanglies there judging by the bank side fishos, but was wondering whats the water like down stream? Seems to be an easy launch at the road bridge when you head back towards Esk?

From Twin Bridges downstream you have an easy 1/2 day paddle to Savages Crossing. Turn down Banks Creek Road in the middle of Fernvale and follow it to the bridge at Savages. There's some good fishing water along the way. From Savages downstream to Burton's Bridge is a bit longer run through better fishing water. To get to Burtons Bridge, heading towards Ipswich from Fernvale turn left on Pine Mountain Road, just before the first overtaking lane. Follow that til you come to a nice lagoon on your right then there is a dirt road to the left leading to Burton's. Down stream from there is a shortish paddle to a common public access area. You need a 4 x 4 to access it. If you'd kept going down Pine Mountain Road you'd come to a T intersection where you turn right to Ipswich. Turn left and follow that down through a gate and across the gravel. Next stop downstream is Kholo Bridge. That pretty much covers the Mid section of the Brisbane River.

Love to but no can do Ben, be off else where, but want to have a crack at that water before season end.
Today was a reccy trip, no yak or rod, a bored missus, but a bit of a look around, see how long it takes to get out there so I can time the morning start right and stuff

Gday that twinnies report i done is from the highway down to the first set of rapids, there is some nice 3 mtr deep water with heaps of structure and at the mouth of the creek down there is about 5 mts with a steep boulder cliff face, managed a few bass along there ;)

This video is pretty ordinary quality, but it was shot in the section of Brisbane River between Twin Bridges & Savages Crossing.

You could paddle that section in an hour if you wanted to, but that's not giving any fishing time. Give yourself a good 3 hours for a casual drift along including fishing time, half a day if you want to fish it thoroughly.
There's a few riffles in that section of river.
The first hole can be seen from the highway bridge, once you've just gone around the corner you will see the England Creek Junction immediately followed by the first riffle. Once past there it's going to be hard paddling back up if you're not doing the 2 car thing.
There's one small hole below that then (take the right hand option is best) a couple hundred meters of faster flowing ( but hardly dangerous) water that you probably won't be able to paddle back up against. Then 50 odd meters of very pretty narrow section (look for platypus' where it opens up) before it opens up to another larger hole. Good snags both sides. At bottom of that hole there's a another narrow section.....once through that you're almost at Savages Crossing so don't be in a hurry to keep moving....you'll see the bridge in another 100m.
Remember all green fish should be released if you happen to get one. Frank lives in that section somewhere :-X (90+cm, so please be kind to him if you catch him)

Well, finally managed to drop in the yak and fish the river for the first time.
Didnt come across any of the big girls, but plenty of middling Bass kept me entertained. Great day, and a nice paddle.

I put in at Harpeng Road (Hollywood Boulevard) on Tuesday with a couple of lads fromup the hill. Best yella was 60cm, best bass was 55cm. There's still some around, tho I must admit the fishing there is nowhere near as good as it has been in the past year..... the days are shortening & the water temperatures are dropping fast, I'm thinking there's probably a pack of instinct driven fish on their way downstream to take the plunge over the weir.... That being correct, there would be bass scattered through the system.
Not long until the bass season closes BR, you best pull your finger out. :youbeauty

Dropped in at Shines Fitzy, first time, now I know where the Heart Attack Hill came from!!!
3 x 50's in 3 casts, a couple of nice yellows, some good mid 40's, all on spinnerbaits hard in the timber, plus one nasty mofo that just smoked me, ouch.
All on spinner baits, but thats mainly what I threw chasing some bigger fish this run.

Those stick have been producing some nice fish. Saw a 55 pulled from the timber last week (my best was a 52 or 53ish bass). Also saw someone get destroyed just down from there. I'm thinking there's an occasional better class of bass there, the odd bull shark made it up that far or there might be a few green fellas about. Either way, they're damn good fun!! Thanks for the update BR. :thumb

Great work Brian. I'm heading upstream of twinnies in the tinny this arvo. Need a Bass fix before the season ends. I've been pretty crook and I'm not up to Shines or Hollywood boulevard.

Thanks Dale, yep, that hill is a killer, but certainly some nice fish down there. Nothing like having your yak towed back into the snags by a good Bass.
I appreciate your info a few posts back on access points in the mid river section, I fished Burtons up stream last week end, and now Shines, the mid river sections are about an hour 20 from home, a lot closer than the sunshine coast streams I was fishing, and differant kind of water.
Enjoy the arvo session, I was off the water at 4 yesterday, so prob missed the best bite window.
