Wivenhoe Canoe and kayak comp.
« on: September 12, 2011, 07:40:20 PM »
We launched our Kayaks from the Shines Rd access point ( some say..... its heart attack hill !! ) . Only 8 competitiors launched from here for the Saturday morning session .

My wife ( Alison ) and I proceeded to work our way upstream , along with StevenM , WayneD and Catfish Al . Things were slow early with only a few rats ( 30's ) being caught for the first couple of hours . Wayne and  The Steve left us for waters downstream , as we continued to slowly work our way up . The more the morning wore on , the more the Bass began to bite. At around 11ish we had made our way up to into the reach that is well within sight of the Dam .

Over the next hour or so , we all got onto some good fish . The best being Alison with a 54cm Bass and a 56cm Yellowbelly.

Catfish Al and I both got our largest Bass for the day here too, which went 46cm ( I think ) for Al and a 50cm unit for myself.

We continued to flick spinnerbaits all the way back with hits nearly in all shaded areas along the banks . Nothing more was landed that was of a size good enough for an upgrade for the comp however .

Sunday's session started at the same launching spot , but with many more competitors choosing this access point. With nearly everyone heading upstream , the 'crew' decided on heading downstream for the day . Wesfish ( some say.... his new name is "Fourstroke" ) was working this section over . Both casting timber lures and on the troll , the later being very productive for him . Alison after being inspired by Wes' efforts , decided on trolling to the end of this reach . Upon arriving at the end , she went back to casting SB's into the snags . Soon some small bass where landed  , then the Unicorn of Yellowbelly , all 61cm of it.

Not long after she followed that fish up with a 54cm Bass. Wes , the Steve and Wayne spent the rest of the day working their way down to the log jam . We also had the pleasure of Aussiebasser's better half joining us for the day Pam , who also got onto a few bass down in this section too. Myself , I had a much quieter day than the day before , and was starting to feel the effects of some wicked sunburn. Overall it was an awesome weekend's fishing , can't wait until next year.

Cheers,
Dave.

I have heard that Alison is finished with your Mojo now and you can have it back until next year.  Thanks for letting Pam tag along too.

Well done Wes & Dave for helping Pam get up Heart Attack Hill.  :youbeauty

An awesome gesture.

Great report Dave. Alison's smile tells a story on its own.

Pam has said she'd like to go out again this Sunday.  Will you boys be right to give her a hand again? :yourock

The couple of bigguns taken by Alison sure made her a worthy champ this year :Clap)

And a great result for all the the river anglers who made the effort to go down.
