Don't think closed season applies , no flow from other dams , and as for the stocking of the lakes .. Tight lipped for now , but they are healthy

Closed season applies to all waters in Qld with exception of specifically named lakes, so definately applies to Springfield lakes & Forrest Lake, just so you're aware, even though these are obviously stocked fish.

Anyhow, it's a silly piece of legislation that is in desperate need of fixing the issues. Thanks for the report.  :thumb

Actually, aren't Springfield & Forrest lakes are privately owned? If so, the closed season doesn't apply.  :tick

Yes you are allowed to paddle on all lakes. Asked permission in the early days to road test new installs on sounders and was given the OK.

The new lake on Opposum Creek actually have a kayak launch spot.

The no fishing signs were put up by a local resident who had a issue with people leaving bags of bait around the lake ( idiots) .. So don't worry about the signs they mean nothing.

Please ignore this post.  Never, ever ignore a No Fishing sign.  Check with the proper authorities.

Paulie, Do you know for sure that the sign is not an official one? If it's not put there by the relevant authority then it has no function and should be removed.

I can clarify that Forest Lake can be fished. The no fishing signs were put up by the developer Delfin.  Some time ago the estate was handed over to Brisbane City Council. I enquired to 2 different departments of the local authority and both gave me, in writing, the same answer. That fishing was an acceptable recreation activity on council parks and reserves.
I was surprised to learn during the same investigations for other council by-laws that Redlands does not allow fishing in any waters that are bordered by their reserves

That would depend on who still owns the Lake.  It cannot be Brisbane City Council because its in Ipswich.  If its owned by Ipswich City Council I'm sure they would allow fishing but I don't know for sure.

Spot on. Springfield falls within the Ipswich City boundaries. The developers are responsible for the upkeep and repairs to new estates for a contracted period. Once control is handed to the council, you can disregard those generic fishing signs.  The only BCC signs at Forest Lake concern feeding of birds.  I was told that fishing from the waterside bikeway was frowned upon as a public liability issue, but there is a canoe ramp and plenty of off path spots to fish. Here is a couple of pics of whats on offer in parks around Brisbane.

If this thread hadn't been edited, you could see the Ipswich City Council No Fishing sign at Springfield Lake in one of eagles posts.
They used to have Delfin ones up but have since been changed? What did the bass taste like? Pretty dirty water from what I've seen.

Just wondering if anyone has heard either way if you can fish Springfield lakes?  I saw an article in the local rag about people being fined for taking wildlife out of forest lakes.  They didn't mention what was taken out though

That would be interesting, legislation to control what someone can do on private property.  Will it make Bli Bli Barra park open the gates to everyone?
