Title: First Trip for this season
Post by: BrisBassMan on September 16, 2011, 11:16:22 AM
Hi guys

Just wanted to report on my first trip since all the fun started up again.

Went out early in the morning(still pretty cold too) and was on the water at about 5:20am. Second cast with a buzzbait got a hit and third did the trick with a 34cm bass. Wasn't much else for the next 20mins or so off the surface. Maybe a little cold still and the Sammy didn't even get a look in(very strange!!). I do normally see plenty of baby mullet swimming the surface which were absent this time so this could be the reason.

Went sub surface with a 3B Fat dog(Cerberus) and that did all the damage for the rest of the sesh. The default hooks on those little ripper lures just can't handle the abuse. They bend then break far too easily but then they are are quite fine and not suited to big bass.

The score for the 3 hour sesh was 17 and the biggest went 43cm.

Not bad for the first trip they season I reckon.

Very nice. Never actually caught anything working a buzz bait on the surface. Caught plenty slow winding them using them like a spinnerbait. Do you catch many on it as a surface lure? It travels pretty fast across the top!!

I had one I got from Dreamfish for quite a while and never used it.  Then mid season last year I got thirteen bass in a 2hr session and I instantly liked it ;).  As far as speed goes it might depend on the weight but the 1/4oz I had in dark purple was a really champ and you could get it running pretty well.  I say was because it is in the water now forever more :(  It might be a weapon used later on in the year when the weather warms up and the bugs are more numerous.
