Boat Shows - Who Goes?
« on: August 26, 2012, 08:49:16 PM »
With the national boat show curcuit almost finished for the year, I'm wondering who goes to their local boat shows and what is the reason you do or don't go to them?

I go because it is part of my work, but I doubt that I would be going unless I was looking to specifically buy something there. Noting that there is often some very good buys to be had at shows...

Dont go - I hate crowds, I hate the stupidity of them having them where there is no parking available (I hate public transport almost as much as I hate crowds) Also I just dont get the concept of paying an entry fee for the privilege of buying stuff that is generally available any day of the week locally, is often dearer than you can get without much effort  at local outlets.

Also if I want to see "lookatme" wallies dressed up like court jesters with overpowered boats and fishing gear dearer than my car, I can switch on the box most days of the week and watch them from the comfort of my own lounge chair. Can turn down the volume there as well  ;)

If I am after something big, I certainly use the opportunity when they are on to visit the local suppliers who run specials at the same time though!    ;D
Got my last leccy like that, $200 bucks off!

I went yesterday.  I found the car park under the Convention Centre.  Some nice new boats displayed.  Found a few bargains.  Caught up with some mates.  All up, and enjoyable experience.

I used to go, I suppose more when i was into boats. But Kayaking has changed that and as I said on a kayaking forum this week, why would I go there when I know the only kayaks on show are hobies when I can walk into their shop down the road for free with free parking outside.

I used to prefer the boat show years ago when it was at the RNA, gee that was a while ago now. But in saying this it is good to see the Australian Boating industry open its doors to the public. Most of us know that the Australian Tackle industry have their one big trade show preceding the Boat Show, its a pity they don't open it up to the general public, think of the boost that would give to Australia's dwindling tackle shops, I have never understood why it has been closed doors.  This partly why the Lure show was such a buzz earlier this year.

Cheers

The Tackle Show is for Wholesalers only.  Retailers go to find the latest products to stock on their shelves.  No products are sold at the show.  I've been to a few, it's quite easy to join the Association and attend the show.
