My wife and I took the flipper flapper yaks out for a burn today on Lake Moogerah . School holidays and it was good to see only a little ski boat action on the lake . With a strongish NW blowing , we decided to make our way over to the gorge section .

Last year when we visited this lake , we found a few yellas over there in the gorge by trolling , but couldn't find any today . Also last year the dam level was 62% whereas today's level 95.8 % . We found plenty of Bass on the edges flicking spinnerbaits though .

They all seemed about the same size ( same year class ? ) , around the 30-35cm in length .
This fella had nice gut on him .

After awhile we decided to work our way round towards the dam wall , hugging close to the rocky banks.
I was picking up bass along the way regularly and Alison was complaining she had lost her mojo .

to be continued.....

My bass action stopped once I arrived below the picnic grounds at the Dam wall . We turned around and worked our way back along the rope marker and continued to work the western side of the dam down towards the gorge. The bass were jumping all over the spinnerbaits again ( mainly for me though ).

Alison had accumulated a total of 3 bass ( and was losing interest fast ) while I had just landed my 16th . With the prospect of a grumpy wife , I told her which rocks I was getting bumps at , in the hope that 'a bit of action' would regain her interest . On one particular sappling that I had cast at on the way up ( and caught 4 bass on ) , I told her to have a flick at on the way back . On the 2nd cast at it , she says to me , " oh , I think I have snagged it again." Then she proceeds to wind in the "snag". "Its a fish" , she says ." A funny looking yellow belly" . Upon reaching her , I was dumbfounded to tell her that , " Its a ^%$&ing Cod !!!" Her Mojo instantly returns , happy wife .

At 54cms , to say she was stoked is a understatement. We launched around noon and were off the water by 5pm . Alison finished with 1 MRC and 3 Bass to go with my 18 Bass . Now she wants a Toga.......
Cheers,
Dave.

There were about 3 or 4 ski boats out there . The wind was the problem early , but it dropped out in the aftrenoon. I didn't see anyone else fishing. Half a dozen canoe loads of kids swimming and jumping off the cliffs right up in the gorge though , we didn't fish much up in there . Alot of algae/weed made it a bit soupy up in there too. Have you had much luck up in the timber in the southern end of the dam Steve? We haven't ventured down there yet.
Cheers,
Dave.

I havent personally just seen some fair arches on the sounder. A mate i often run into over there has shown me photos of yella's caught when there is a fresh running into the dam and they are rediculous, Apparently the bass go off too but thats the only time i hear anyone has great success in the southern end.
The main creek bed drop offs usually go ok if you find fish along them.
You and Alison have been doing the best out of anyone i have heard yet, you may have hit the right day.
Was that bank near the gorge burnt off ?

Nice work Dave, that's the sort of thing that keeps the marraige going well; when your wife can catch a better fish than you can. I am yet to hit Moogerah, tho had a look at it last Monday when all the smoke was about. Think I'll wait until after school holidays though.
Cheers,
John

Reminds me of a World's Greatest Fishing Band song where the wife says to hubby "you bring home the bacon, I'll bring home the bass, if you don't like it you can kiss my a$$"

After all the fun the wife and I had at Moogerah last week , we gave the lake another go today. Did things much the same as last week , flicking spinnerbaits and we fished the same side of the dam ( the gorge and western banks/points ) .
The ski boats were out in force .

But the fish didn't mind.

I ended up 14 Bass and 1 Golden Perch . ALISON HAS FINALLY LOST HER MOJO !!!! but at least she didn't leave with a donut :)
I enjoyed using Alison's Bass Action net with the printed measurement on the inside, I didn't roll out the brag mat all arvo.
Cheers,
Dave.
