Title: How many pots? Maroon
Post by: Muzfox on June 11, 2013, 03:46:20 PM
Something I just remembered from my trip on Saturday. What are the regulations for pots in SEQ Water Dams eg Maroon?

I went past one guy early who was checking pots, pretty sure he would have had at least 10+ along the western shores of the dam, only him in the boat.

Could be I'm used to saltwater rules with regards to pots but I thought there was a limit in fresh dams? Didn't think much of it at the time and didn't think of getting a rego, was too busy trolling and watching the sounder.

But, I do have some pots at home, and a feed of redclaw sometime might be a nice addition to a day out, so wanted to check the regs.

4 per person either shrimp or opera house or combination of both not 4 of each. Hopefully will be reviewed.

That would be the camp lake fire mongroll, He sets at least 20 that i counted near weekend and during the week when busy for the campers he tears around checking them and even sped right past me within the 60m regs.

Simple

Pull up 16 of them and cut them to bits and leave his pots on the bank for collection

It is illegal to interfere with another person's pots.  Even if they are illegal.  Your only recourse is to call 1800017116 and give them the details and a boat and car rego number if you can see it.

Seriously ??

Do set lines fall under the same argument I wonder

If you get caught pulling in someone else's set lines you may well be accused of having set them.  Fisheries inspectors quite often watch lines and nets waiting for the owner.  If you see illegal activity, report it, but don't touch anything!

Thanks for that phone number. Next time, take video, take notes, and ring when in range :)

I cut all set lines that I come across.

Don't know about fisheries inspectors, I'm more worried about the banjos with guns that own the set lines.

Not in NSW, down here you can grab 'em and get rid of'em. THat's what our local fisheries lady says. however they would like to know where they were in case old mate wants a repeat performance.
