Good morning, looks like were hitting Lake Somerset this weekend is it any good land based fishing around camp grounds? We will get weekend camp and fish permits

I think ive allready asked this . is there barra in summer set . and any good points within hiking distane from camp site .we got little boat s but just good for short distance

Assuming you mean Lake SOMERSET.....?

There are no barramundi stocked south of Maryborough, so no barra in Somerset. You should be asking the stocking group guys what fish they stock there. That should be bass, golden perch, silver perch, Saratoga and Mary river cod.

Land based angling is restricted to recreation areas. You can catch fish off the northern shore at Kirkleagh Rec Area if chucking lures. If you're drowning bait you can catch fish anywhere. Eg tilapia, spangled perch, tandanus, barred grunted, snub nosed gar and ,maybe a silver perch.

Thanks for that reply . i tryed in stanley river just below dam nothing . and we were at spit with friends on sunday seen 1 barred grunteer folow lure but theres to much wash from boats . in that small cove near gate . hit the stanley river near that big bridge got a couple foot long catfish was happey with that .will have to try north sore . is there less boats there?

Going for bass mate . live shrimp will be the go next time . just use lures and prawns

All the aspects of this spot below the lake look good standing timber in water .hit that spot at 5am with shade over structure . maybe next time ill get some thing on lure

Working lures from my little boat all the way from the bank at camp site to the no acess sign just below the dam wall . it was an adventuve navagating through all the standing timber in an inflatble boat .casting into structure and didnt loose any lures

Yes at the big bridge u go stright on road to esk unstead of turning left to fernvale . that was on way home from somerset.the nice lady at somerset store gave me tip that the ranger caught lots there.
