A QUIET COUPLE OF HOURS
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:06:18 AM »
Thought I would have a couple of hours at my favourite spot yesterday, so I borrowed my son in laws old Cruiser as the track has suffered seriously from the last 2 wet seasons.  No good for 2WD.

First hollow I am nose down in mud, the front dif is touching.  When I say mud this is a dairy farm and this is the track they use and half the mud is dung.  Digging, trenching and looking for rocks, sticks etc to drop into the tracks.  Water filling the trench as quick as I dig.  It was then I considered the fact that I might be too old for this cr@p.  Forty minutes or so before I get out.

Decided to hit it from another angle and got through.  Down to the river.  The river has also suffered from the floods, snaggs come and go, but, there is one snagg that has not altered with 8 to10 meters of water passing over it each year.

Cod like this snagg, a friend has been attacted from the depths some years ago and I have lost good Spinnerbaits to serious strikes, so naturally I gravitate to this spot.

Being on foot the only access is to walk out via a submerged log which is part of the snagg, quitely of course.  Ballance is not too good at this point so I retrieve a stick of drift wood as a third leg.  A few casts with the spinner bait and I am snagged up.  Not coming off with the usual flicks so have to walk out all the way using the tight line as a form of ballance.
Doesn't work, down I go.  Rod is gone, up to my armpits in freezing water, fishing for the rod with my foot and thinking I could be getting too old for this cr@p.  At least I didn't have the mobile in my pocket, this time.

Found the rod, spooked the Cod and headed for home.

It was so nice to dry off and sit in the sun in the back yard and read Harro latest book for an hour.

Next time I could be lucky.

That's fishing for you mate. some days are diamonds and.................

The one good thing is that you know that old man cod is still there when you get down there again.

If you're a bit hesitant in future, give me a holler and I'll take you down there (time permitting). It's a nice spot to just sit and look at let alone wetting a line.

Not ready for the deck chair yet Fitzy but thanks for the offer.  I have an old Kayak hidden the scrub out there now and will be checking every snag from the water probably once a week.
I can walk to the water in 15 min.

Let me know if you want to make a day out there.  More fun when the Bass return of course.
