Title: Texas Cod Fishing again
Post by: Novice on June 24, 2012, 09:39:18 PM
Cod fishing again. Same place. Almost the same crew as a fortnight ago ( we swapped WayneD for Bushwacker instead). We felt we had unfinished business with some sections of the river we didn't get to on the last trip 2 weeks ago. Similar amount of cod landed ( 11) and a similar number dropped. Largest cod went 70cm. Only the one Yellowbelly caught.

Gibraltar reserve at dawn. Is that ET under the blanket??

Nice report fellas, wish I could have gone, but it looks like I'm out of the game for a while now...........

If that's what the crack of dawn looks like out that way, I'll gladly sleep in to avoid it.......  :walkplank

What lures were the best? Whirly gigs, timber or plastic?

The larger fish preferred spinnerbaits. I stuck to the Gara timber hard bodies most of the day and couldn't break into the 60's.

When dawn cracks out that way it stays cracked!  Nasty.  Good to see you got some fish.

Score one to Oargee 75 Plow.  There's just something about the name of that lure.  Pity the manufacturer's can't spell

Well

Here is my input

This is what the crack of Dawn actually looks like

And man was it cold. I slept in a pair of shorts and a T shirt as it was quite warm at around 10pm the previous night but when my thongs stuck to my feet when I climbed out to have a piss I knew it was bloody cold.

A shot of the frost across the back of the Hobie.

I love the country down there and the river is a beautiful spot there is lots of portage through the section we did but it was pretty place.

A couple of random shots from early in the morning

And my best fish for the day

I threw hard bodies and spinner baits. Droped a few fish again, could not land one on a hard body.

Once again boys, thanks for the laughs, beats mowing the grass that’s for sure.

And Fitz, what have you done mate? You get married or something?

Well done boys, great to see you had a great weekend, even if it was a bit cold. How good are those trips with good mates, sharing good times and long yarns....oh, and catching some great fish.

Steve that's a side of you I didn't expect to see.

 :thanks Dave

Did he have to special order Brads from the short and fat store?

Another great trip guys. Spewing I missed out although that frost doesn't look too inviting. Maybe in another fortnight I can get away and get my cod on.

Fitz,
I felt very svelte and sexy in my new shirt.  Curse of the Good Looking Man!   Thank you.   :thanks

Never ceases to amaze me how much synthetics stretch before they scream.  Steve's shirt was heard to whimper occasionally throughout the day, but Brad's was shrieking like Mamma Cass was eyeing it off.  Bloody thing was nearly hysterical from the moment his head squeezed into it! :NiceThread)

Actually, after giving it a bit of thought, I haven't seen poppy smile since before labor lost the most recent state election. Maybe he's taking his favourite team's defeat badly.......time to get over it Jeff :)
