Recreation Area Handover for the good of local Community

SunWater has today handed over management of the Callide Dam Recreation area to Banana Shire Council.
Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney, handed over management of the recreation area to Banana Shire Council Mayor Ron Carige at a community gathering on Friday, May 30.
"By providing ownership of the Callide Dam’s recreation area to council, SunWater is exemplifying our government’s belief that services are always delivered best when the local community is involved," Mr Seeney said.
"I am pleased to be here to mark the official handover today and wish Banana Shire Council all the best with managing our dam’s picturesque recreational area."
Banana Shire Council Mayor Ron Carige said the occasion goes hand in hand with the Council’s message of being the Shire of Opportunity.
"The Banana Shire region is blessed with some of the greatest natural surroundings of inland Australia – and we want nothing more than to look after the community by providing great recreation facilities at dams such as Callide," Mayor Carige said.
SunWater Chief Executive Peter Boettcher said SunWater also recognises the community benefit of having facilities that allow the public to appreciate lakes and parks surrounding our dams.
"It is good to see the Banana Shire Council has committed to taking over management of what is not just a recreation area, but an area for the whole community to relax and appreciate," Mr Boettcher said.
Mr Boettcher went on to say that he was impressed by the collaborative nature in which SunWater and the Banana Shire Council staff worked together to achieve this important result for the community.
Local councils have successfully taken over the recreational areas of a number of SunWater Dams for the benefit of their local community. These include:
• Tinaroo Falls Dam (Tablelands Regional Council)
• Boondooma Dam (South Burnett Regional Council)
• Paradise Dam & Cania Dam (North Burnett Regional Council)
