North Pine Redclaw
« on: December 09, 2010, 04:23:58 PM »
Well it was tough out at North Pine Dam this morning, so tough I had to whack on a No 12 hook and catch a gar fish to avoid the dreaded donut!

So tough Dino only caught 2 bass (yes 2, not 2 dozen).

The consolation was the Red Claw.
Took my mate and my two sons out with me, more of a rest for mum than a serious fishing trip (and to get my pots in for the weekend, when the serious trip is !)

Dropped in 4 shrimp traps and 8 opera traps.

Did not get a single shrimp all day, but did well from the 8 opera traps.

First pull got 60 Redclaw, a couple of pots in a bit shallow, no claw in them so moved them deeper, got 91 redclaw on the second pull.

Mixture of biguns and medium sized, no little ones in my pots at all. (Although my father got a few small uns in his pots ).

Also learned that if your to lazy to turn off your auto pilot all day, expect flat bow mount batteries! They ran out of puff on the home straight, losing power - so switched the bow mount off and came home the last kilometre on the stern mount only.

First couple of photo's fairly typical pots, 3rd photo is claw from the first pull, last photo the 2nd pull of the pots.

Good haul of Claws Binder. A mate keeps at me to get out and do a stress release session before xmas, might head out to NPD with some traps on loooong ropes, and flick some surface lures late evening while we wait. With all the new country covered, I reckon the odd fish will be up in the shallows at night.

Cheers Brad
