Have a say on the future management of Kow Swamp
Monday 28 July, 2014 - Goulburn-Murray Water

Community members are being urged to have their say on the future management of Kow Swamp.

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) will host a community meeting on Wednesday, July 30 from 7pm at the Leitchville Memorial Hall where the public can share its views.

GMW Acting General Manager of Catchment Services Mark Bailey said the public's feedback would be used to develop the Kow Swamp Land and On-Water Management Plan.

The Kow Swamp Land and On-Water Management Plan will:

• Identify a long term vision for the storage as an integral part of the Torrumbarry irrigation network;
• Recognise the diverse range of values and uses;
• Provide a strategic framework for management of the storages, and;
• Identify a series of specific actions to be implemented to help achieve a long-term
vision for the storages.

"The plan is being developed to protect important values of Kow Swamp," Dr Bailey said.

"It includes the land, communities and activities that interact with the water storage.

"We urge community members including Leitchville, Gunbower, Cohuna and surrounding
districts to attend this public meeting and have their say."

Dr Bailey said once the draft plan had been developed a second round of consultation
activities would occur later in the year to give people the opportunity to review the plan and provide feedback.

"We would appreciate and value your time and input into the Kow Swamp Land and On-Water Management Plan," he said.

The public meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 30 from 7pm to 9pm at Leitchville Memorial Hall.
