Golden perch run rampant after heavy rain

The recent long spell of rain across parts of the state has been especially good for some of our aquatic residents.
Golden perch, a firm favourite for many freshwater fishers, are on the bite with gusto after the recent downpours.
Stocked Impoundment coordinator Jenny Keys said there was no better time to buy a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) and hit the dams.
"I have been receiving great reports from fishers at Glenlyon dam, who are catching lots of good sized golden perch," she said.
"Golden perch are excellent eating, with clean white flesh. The fish, known to many of us as yellowbelly, are currently easy to catch as they are hanging around the edge of the dam to feed.
"As the water levels rise, the fish move up into the grass and weeds around the fringes of the dam to gorge on the breeding shrimp that live in the undergrowth.
"Your best chance of targeting golden perch is by fishing in about 12-13 ft of water in the flooded grass.
"It’s not just golden perch loving the wet weather; other species such as Murray cod are also in abundance.
"Barramundi are just about to take off too, as are most of the freshwater species as the water temperature is warming up and the fish are becoming active."

Ms Keys said anglers needed a permit to fish in any of these dams.
"For just $7 you can fish for a week but for only $35 you can buy an annual permit and fish all year round knowing you are contributing to the upkeep of the local fish stocking program," she said.

And just off the top of my head there's also Lake Maraboon, Ewen Maddock Dam, Baroon Pocket Dam, (Advancetown Lake) Hinze Dam, Wuruma Dam, Mt Morgan, Lake Kajarabie..........

Seeing it's an ad for the SIPS permit. I guess leaving off Maraboon, Ewen Maddock, Baroon , Hinze , Mt Morgan & Kajarabie which aren't on the SIPS list (as shown on the website) is not a problem as far as they see it ???

Here I was thinking that Lake Maraboon & Lake Samsonvale were on the SIP.
