Big bass, lots of them happily go down in major flows. Evidenced by the fishing downstream after major gate releases.

Little bass I think, hope, guess that most head up or stick to the edges out of the flow.

Yep, but there seems to be a certain amount of big bass that dont go downstream, dont know why, but after several big over toppings in the last 4 or 5 years, people are still catching trophy size fish in the dams, not in crickets scores, but enough to be certain there is still a reasonable population left.

As Fitzy says, the "shooting fish in a barrel" results in the Brisbane River and below the North pine dam after each overtopping is certainly evidence of large amounts going over, as is the prevalence  of bass in waterways that probably have not seen a bass in 20 years (if ever, for the northern areas) for a large amount of the east coast river systems. In the closed season last winter I had to give up fishing a few of my favourite snags in the local river as they were just chocka's with bass.

I dont know about the other dams but I dont think there would of been anywhere near the numbers of escapees from NPD this time as they were not evident in the dam in any numbers.
