Title: For Fitz, the view from Sweetwater Lodge
Post by: aussiebasser on January 16, 2011, 07:44:52 PM
Taken  today.  First pic is looking toward Fernvale, normally can't see water from here.
Second pic, you can see the height of the water by the washout on the road to the left.  All houses in this pic had water in them to some degree.  The level here was 1 metre higher than during the '74 floods.  Only damage to the lodge was lot's of mud downstairs and in the shed.  New driveway survived 17 inches of rain in 12 hours.  I think the water tank if full now.

Will the road between Fernvale and Lowood stay under while they release water from the dam Dale?
Thanks for the pics too. :OMG

Yep, all gates are wide open.  I'd guess they'll let it go to about 70%.

Hope the cleanup isnt too bad for you guys there.  I never realised just how bad it would be until I absolutely gutted a house out at Rocklea.  Insurance isn't gonna pay the poor girl even though she paid the extra for flood insurance.  They are using the line "We don't cover for Natural disasters"

Speaking from a stocking point of view there must be a lot of fish over the wall and out to the bay with all that water being released.  How do you stockers read the situation ?

Cheers

Yep, lotta fish gone, lotta fish remaining.  We'll stick more in, no biggie really.

Lowood to Fernvale road reopened yesterday.  They must have shut some gates.

Same situation with recent discussions on Awoonga going over I guess.  So many fish stocked over a long time and so much water for them to live in means i very small turnover of fish.  I reckon after this wet season every river or creek from Gold Coast to Gympie will have plenty of bass to gives us all a great time.

Cheers

One year on today............ alot of water has gone down that river since. The river is definately different & is initially healing well, however there were thousands of massive gum trees that will take generations to be replaced.

On the bright side , a heap of those gums have made great "river reefs" .  :youbeauty
