G'Day crew,
I'm looking at shelling out for another Bass outfit and beginning to get a little weary of the Shimano/Daiwa roundabout. Great gear I know but I'm getting cabin fever over it. The reels I went straight to were the Pflueger Supreme and the Quantum Energy in whatever passes for the 2000 size. All the reviews I've read make them both sound like the next best thing since Vegemite. Any opinions?
Cheers

G'day mate i just forked out for a Pflueger patriarch XT spin although not sure of the size in thousands id imagine its around the 2000 size and i love it.
I picked up near a dozen reels when i was looking and it just stands out for me anyway, Beautifull and smooth winding positive drag with audible clicks and air bail but the main stand out for me is its lightweight.
Hope this helps in some way, its just the way ive gone.

G'Day JD,
I fished with a Quantum combo for a day ay Lake Mulwala recently. While I didn't put a bend in the rod in a fish, the reel (& rod) worked well. I was quite happy with them. Based on that test drive I'd consider buying one.
Cheers,
fitz..

Hey JD,
If your chasing Quantum gear, Motackle are having a huge sale on their Quantum reels at the moment.

Thanks Steve, I read the Tackle Tour review on the Pflueger and it looks the goods. Same for the Quantum, with the only negative comments being a lack of braid suitable coating on the spool. I'm going to team it with a Samiki 1-3kg rod. May have to toss acoin here as far as the reel goes though. Thanks for the feed back Fitzy and Dave.
Hey Fitzy, what would you think about organising a field day for the forum members at some time. Most of us seem to come from SE Qld or Northern NSW. May have to pass the hat if Passfield wants to come.
Cheers men.

JD, the Pflueger patriarch has a rubber ring top and bottom of the spool that is supposed to act as a non slip grip for braid.
I havent ventured that far with lines yet still using a co polymer so i am not 100% knowlagable on braid just what they advertise is what ive told you, and is not the only reel around with those rubber rings.

Thanks Steve, I've got everything spooled with braid now and wouldn't go back. The idea of braid friendly spools is a good one although most of the braids come in either 125 or 150m spools so depending on your spool capacity backing or top shotting is still an option I reckon.
Cheers mate,
John

Gentlemen,
I ended up with the Pflueger spooled it with 6lb braid. The reel lookes the goods and casts well with a 7'6" Samiki. Thanks for the input blokes.

What model did you end up going with mate ?
-
I ended up with the Supreme 9030XT mate. The bloke I get my tackle from didn't have the new Patriarch, and while the Supreme is slightly heavier, it doesn't bother me. Looking forward to some clean water so I can give it a run.
Cheers mate,

I think the supreme is on par if not a better model than the patriarch or similar just different in their own way but im sure you will be happy with the supreme.

I think you're right Steve, the main difference is all the carbon fibre in the Patriarch. The spool swallows 150m of 6lb with room left over. Top shotted with about 20m of 10lb mono.

im not sure what the patriarch holds but thats pretty impressive
