Title: Lakes Samsonvale and Kurwongbah
Post by: aussiebasser on January 12, 2016, 07:19:10 AM
Interesting read in the Local Council Newsletter for Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Quote
20,000 Australian Bass Fingerlings together with 10,000 Golden Perch Fingerlings were released in Lakes Samsonvale and Kurwongbah in early December with another 150,000 Golden perch being released into Lake Samsonvale in mid January.  Council provided recurrent funding for the purchase of fingerlings as a part of its commitment to biodiversity in local waterways.  The Australian Bass Fingerlings and Golden Perch Fingerlings will help to tip the balance in favour of native species in Lake Samsonvale.  It well also help to ensure the lakes continue to be a favourite fishing spot for the region's anglers.  Thanks to the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association and its hardworking volunteers for their ongoing commitment to protecting fish habitats in the Pine Rivers Catchment Area.

Interesting ? yes very interesting though not the word I would use.
"Council provided recurrent funding for fingerlings as part of its commitment to biodiversity in local waterways" How is stocking 145 000 non indigenous natives going to increase or have any positive effect on biodiversity diversity in local waterways ? The exact opposite is the only result of this.
"The Australian Bass Fingerlings and Golden Perch Fingerlings will help to tip the balance in favour of native species in Lake Samsonvale." Golden Perch are not native species and will in no way help to tip the balance in favour of native species in Lake Samsonvale. Who writes this stuff ?
Golden Perch are stocked as a put and take fishery, in the case of this fishery there is virtually no take. To make such claims in a press release is not only untrue but raises serious questions of the competency of the managers of this fishery IMHO
