Petition to support commercial culling of carp in QLD.
« on: December 14, 2011, 04:37:13 PM »
Found this on another site.
 http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/work-of-assembly/petitions/e-petition?PetNum=1820.
I am not conversant with the policies in Southern states but I find it difficult to support any commercial operations in freshwater.
 Cheers
Ray

Me thinks I smell that QCFO rat yet again. They've tried before in Qld & failed, due to the now disbanded FreshwaterMAC intercepting the moves. There are now no "checks & balances" to quote one of Anna Bligh's favourite lines.....

You can absolutely bet, that once a dollar is involved in harvesting a noxious fish, that fish will start to apprear in all sorts of places... the temptation for those who earn a moderate buck, to turn that into a serious buck is without doubt one of the greatest threats to sweetwater fisheries going. You can bet your left one on it!!!!

This would be the thin edge of the wedge. As soon as one noxious fish is harvestable, wait for tilapia to be next, then catfish, then ???

Also, once there is a dollar involved, it is part of Qld Fisheries charter to ensure all fisheries are sustainable. So when the enevitable over allocation of licences occurs & a fishery declines (you'll never wipe them out with commercial hervesting BTW) there would without a doubt be the need to "pay out" those licenses with taxpayer monies.

The concept is one load of Bullshite as far as I'm concerned, it stinks to high heaven.

I'll oppose any move for any commercial harvest of any fish in Qld water & would encourage everyone else to consider the ramifications of what any form of commercial harvest could lead to.

absolutely no way. "bycatch" would be native fish either killed or sold for sure.

It's fortunate that only 14 non thinking individuals have signed the petition.  Then again, that may be enough to get it passed, as there is nowhere to vote against it.  Funny how petitions can work when a minority are for something.

A non vote is as good as an anti vote in this situation. There's no hiding the numbers so they can't quietly slip the petition out the door as its on the govt website. So far, 14 blokes who want to a licence, Imagine 14 beat up old tinnies belting around Wyralong every day......
