Jungle Perch North Queensland
« on: August 16, 2011, 10:17:38 PM »
Good wet seasons throughout the last decade have seen the population of Jungle Perch in our creek in north Queensland recover from the extreme droughts of the mid nineties - time to go fishing....

Jungle Perch get up to greater than 50cm, on this day this was the largest I landed - around 40cm

One of the pleasures of fishing for Jungle Perch is the extremely beautiful country they live in - they generally require good clear water (being such visual predators) and dense overhanging riparian vegetation for a supply of terrestrial insects - the clarity of the water this fish was caught in can be seen by oberservations of its mates swimming around after it was hooked.

Awesome footage Jim, thanks for sharing.  :thumbsup

Junglies are a great fish, could watch that sort of footage all day. In water that clear you'd need to be quiet & no shadows hey?

Here's some more JP footage

Here's some more footage from our special creek in NQ

Jungle Perch are extremely inteligent fish and you seldom get a second strike out of the same hole once a fish has been landed or they have felt the hooks of an artifical lure - the fish in this pool were a bit keener!

The last fish accessible pool below the impassable upstream waterfall always hosts large Jungle Perch - the strike from this one demolished my fine mono leader and broke me off....
